Location

Originally, more than 40 sites were considered for the development of the newsprint facility. The Wilton International site, near Middlesbrough on Teesside, was selected due to the combination of the following factors:

  • Availability of large volumes of waste paper locally in the region
  • Power and steam sources located at Wilton
  • Sited close to a significant power and steam source located on the Wilton site itself
  • Availability of both large volumes of water and local sewerage capacity at Northumbrian Water Bran Sands plant
  • Excellent transport links to the rest of the UK for delivery to customers,
plus nearby port facilities for export by sea
  • Green field site within the Wilton complex. Easy to build on with possibilities
    for future expansion
